Covered Calls- A Unique Strategy to Manage & Grow your Stock Investment Portfolio Defensively
A covered call is a defensive strategy that focuses on opening up additional revenue streams from blue chip stocks, in addition to the standard dividends and capital gains. This strategy provides some hedging protection to current portfolio holdings, and can also be very efficiently used for tax balancing. We will also discuss other hedging strategies (Put options, Collars etc), customized to these challenging markets.

Avin Mehra, Vice President & Portfolio Manager, CIBC Wood Gundy, is very actively involved in Options Trading as a defensive & income generating strategy, for his clients for over 15 years. He has also been on the Expert Panel for Montreal Stock Exchange, with the mandate to teach Investment Advisors, the use of Covered Call options for their own client base, for enhancing Portfolio Returns & for partially protecting the downside.
Avin has a passion for teaching complex strategies in plain English & out of his numerous seminars, "Covered Calls writing" has been by far the most popular one, because this strategy is still not widely understood/ practiced in Canada. Avin learned option strategies in London, England, in 1981/1982 & has been an avid practitioner of options for a long time.
Peter Franco, Investment Advisor Assistant, CIBC Wood Gundy, has an Advanced Diploma in Business Administration Accounting from George Brown College. In addition, he has completed several courses from the Canadian Securities Institute, including Wealth Management Essentials. Peter joined Avin's team in 2013.
He is responsible for the day-to-day operations including, managing and maintaining client accounts, tracking option gains, preparing block trades, regularly communicating with prospects and ensuring client satisfaction and a high level of customer service. Peter enjoys nature, traveling and playing sports.
